Description: Streams compiled from the January 2001 OrthophotographyRotorua Stream Capture Data Source 1. Aerial photography flown Jan - Feb 2001 at 9000ft above MSL, photo scale 1:8000. Used for urban areas covered by 1:1000 orthophoto tiles. Expected planimetric accuracy +- 1.5m. Data Source2. Aerial Photography flown Feb 2001 at 22000ft above MSL, photo scale 1:44,000. Expected planimetric accuracy, +-5m All features manually digitized by either Helava DPW stereo-compilation works stations or (Rotorua urban only) Intergraph ZIII workstations. Stream patterns digitised to densities similar to LINZ topomap 260 series. Where streams not visible, ie through dense exotic forest; flat paddocks where ground possibly porous; obvious sinkholes, under bridges, through underground drain pipes; in areas covered by cloud: - then stream is reclassified as invisible streams. Some streams affected by manmade development, have been difficult to precisely define and may exceed planimetric tolerances. Rivers, as defined by RDC, have been digitised two sided, with every attempt to maintain same height either side. Lake edges are continuous, whether covered by jetties, buildings or dense vegetation. Height near constant ie within +- 0.5m. Hydrographic Data Feature List Lake Boundary lake_bdy Lake Centroid lake_cnt River Boundary river_bdy River Centroid river_cnt Invisible River Boundary river_bdi River Centreline river_cl River Centreline (connector) river_cc Drain Centreline drain_cl Hydrographic Data Table Structure River Centreline/Drain Centreline Contains: field TUFI NUMBER 15 1 "" TUFI Terralink Unique Feature Identifier. A static number assigned to the river as an identifier. field SOURCE CHAR 1 "" S value represents the segment is a source. field MOUTH CHAR 1 "" M value represents the segment is a mouth. field LINK CHAR 1 "" Y value represents the segment is a link and is ignored in the river calculations. This is used to switch off one side of a loop or branching in a river. field CONNECTOR CHAR 1 "" This shows that a feature has been added for calculation purposes. An I represents a segment that is an internal connector inside a water polygon feature. An E represents a segment that is an external connector. field STRAHLER_ORDER NUMBER 2 0 "" A number representing the strahler order of the river segment. field SHREVE_ORDER NUMBER 5 0 "" A number representing the shreve order of the river segment field LENGTH_SEGMENT NUMBER 12 0 "" The length of the segment of river that the TUFI represents. field LENGTH_UPSTREAM NUMBER 12 0 "" The total length of upstream segments from the upstream end of the river segment. field FLOW_DIRECTION NUMBER 3 0 "" The flow direction of the river relative to the GIS coordinates of the river segment. A value of 1 shows the coordinate direction is correct, a value of 2 shows the coordinate direction should be reversed. field DOWNSTREAM_TUFI NUMBER 15 1 "" The TUFI from the next downstream river segment. field POINT_NAME 60 "" This field is the River Name as shown on NZTopo50 map. field MOUTH_TUFI NUMBER 15 1 "" The TUFI from the mouth river segment. field LENGTH_MOUTH NUMBER 15 0 "" The length to the mouth from the downstream end of the river segment. This value is used to populate the site distance from the mouth. field TRIBUTARY_ID NUMBER 8 0 "" The id number for the tributary. field LENGTH_SOURCE NUMBER 15 0 "" The distance in metres to the most distant source. field LONGEST_SOURCE_TUFI NUMBER 15 1 "" The TUFI of the most distant source. field TRIBUTARY_LENGTH NUMBER 15 0 "" The total length of the tributary the river segment is on. Measured from the coast to the most distant source segment. Hydrographic Data Overview The hydro features for this area were added to TIMS River Theme Waikato and Bay of Plenty Regions Version 1. The TIL river hierarchy scripts were run over the data until all segments were verified to be connected to the river network. The mouth TUFI, length to mouth etc is therefore calculated from the true coastal mouth, centre of lake or sinkhole point. Connectors were added to polygon features. (Note: the connector features were added in 2D). Connectors can be identified by having an I, (internal to a polygon) or E (external to water feature, maybe underground) in the connector field. The TUFI information is only valid for Rotorua DC. The river names were added as names and not TUFI’s from TIMS Named Features Theme.
